Tip #1 - Handling Phone calls. The phone keeps ringing. It’s your friends, your family, and/or your clients. While phone calls can be good for business, they can also be interruptions to getting things done. What should you do?

Solution: An answering machine or voice mail service will do wonders. When you’re working and don’t want to take calls, you can let the machine take your calls.

In my opinion, Caller ID is a must for many home based businesses today. Caller ID allows you to decide if you want to take a call or not based upon who is calling. It gives you more flexibility in WHO is allowed to interrupt your work.

Also, if you do not have a business line into your home office, I highly recommend getting a distinctive ring service on your phone if it is available. This allows you to distinguish between business and personal calls. You can elect to only answer business calls during the day when you are real busy and elect not to answer them on weekends.
