“God is pleased with gratitude (thanksgiving); he gets so little of it.” - William Tiptaft

This quote by William Tiptaft makes me reflect on how thankful I am. As America celebrates Thanksgiving Day next week, what will you find for which to be thankful?

Here are some things that I am thankful for this year:

  1. Jesus Christ and His salvation.
  2. My husband, who is the love of my life.
  3. My five children - who inspire and encourage me all the way.
  4. Being cancer free for more than a year.
  5. My niece’s family being restored to her and increased with twins - all within the same year.
  6. Continued work for my family’s businesses.
  7. The new friends I’ve made at ChristianWAHM.com!

And so much more. Those are just a few.

What are you thankful for this year? I mean, really, deep down, thankful to God for? Here are some simple ideas that I’ve gathered from the internet to help Christians start a new family tradition.

Simple Yet Creative Ways to Express Thanks to God on Thanksgiving Day

  • Thanksgiving Story - Set aside a few moments on Thanksgiving Day to sit down and read a Thanksgiving story. You can read it alone or together with your family.
  • Thanksgiving Poem or Prayer - Take on the family project of writing a Thanksgiving poem or prayer together.
  • Thanksgiving Bible Verse - Ask each family member to read a favorite Bible verse before the Thanksgiving meal.
  • Thanksgiving Memory - During Thanksgiving dinner, ask each family member to share a favorite Thanksgiving memory.
  • Thanksgiving Blessing - Invite a widow, single person or someone who is lonely to share in your family Thanksgiving meal.
  • Thanksgiving Day Parade or Play - Put on your own Thanksgiving Day parade or “pilgrim play” with family, friends and neighbors.
  • Thanksgiving Offering - Prepare a Thanksgiving offering to give to a needy family or one of your favorite charities.
  • Thanksgiving Adoption - Adopt a family at Thanksgiving by providing their Thanksgiving meal groceries in advance.
  • Thanksgiving Football Game - Plan a neighborhood football game for Thanksgiving weekend.

Enjoy your family this Thanksgiving. But most of all, give honor and glory to the God who made you and sustains you day in and day out! Happy Thanksgiving!
