Today is September 11, 2006. Just five years ago today, our country was attacked within our own borders by an enemy without conscience. Where were you?
I remember that morning very vividly. My husband had already gone to work, and the children and I were getting ready to sit down and do devotions before they started their schoolwork. My sister called me and said “Turn on the news. A plane has hit one of the World Trade Center towers! What happened?”
I turned on the news and sat there - dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing. I immediately called my father. He was an ex-Marine and had fought in World War II. He said, “Kelly, it was deliberate.” As we were talking together, watching TV so many miles apart, the second plane hit the second tower. I started to cry!
I turned on the main TV in our living room and sat with my older children, watching those events unfold. And even though I’ve seen them many times since, I will never forget the first time I saw the towers fall.
I know where I was that morning… and I’m sure you do too!
Most of all… where was God?
He was where He has always been and always will be - on His throne. And not one thing happened that morning that was beyond Him or His sovereign control.
Everyone of His children are in the hollow of His hand - which is the best place they can be. And nothing comes to us as God’s children without Him in control. For all of His children that died that day, He called them home. And they are home with Him right now.
Are you confident in your Lord? When things get stressed in our world, do you worry or do you go to Him in prayer? He alone holds the world in His hands. Rest in Him!
