Today’s Link of the Day: Victorian Home Accents

Please take a minute and visit my friend Amy Ginter’s website. She’s a Christian WAHM and makes some beautiful Victorian crafts. Nice stuff for the upcoming holidays.

Yesterday and today were TWO of “those days.” Have you ever had them? You know, those days when our well-laid plans for completing projects, etc. never come to fruition. But they were good days anyways, thanks to God’s blessings.

Yesterday - I had to spend a good bit of time working on finding some local online advertising for our Kids Party DJs business. Everything is so expensive for advertising on internet websites. That’s why I’ve always tried to keep all the advertising I’ve ever offered online fairly inexpensive - otherwise, who can afford it.

I contacted on of the main local websites that seems pretty popular and the woman who is the editor said that she would run a story on our company - gratis. That was a real blessing! Then I asked her if she could EMAIL me a media kit or prices on advertising because I didn’t have time these next two weeks or so to spend talking to an ad sales rep on the phone. She said that would be fine. Well, lo and behold! Guess what I got? Yep - TWO phone calls from the ad sales rep. Ugh!

Well, this kind of bothered me. I’m one of those people that will go into a clothing store and want to shop on my own - please don’t “help” me spend more than I have to spend. :-D And when I have business decisions to make about advertising, don’t try to upsell me to something I can’t afford or need - let me make my own decisions when I see what you have to offer.

Believe me, sales people HATE to see me coming! :-D

So - my tip to you today in that regard is that if someone wants a brochure, to look over your prices/services, and doesn’t appear to want your further assistance - let them. Be there if they need to ask questions. But when someone SPECIFICALLY wants to make a decision on their own - let them! You might get a very happy client if you do.

Now - on to what we did today. Today, I decided that my children needed some attention, and it wasn’t really the attention they wanted. :-D

In the metro Atlanta areas, the public schools started very early this year - some started school the first Monday in August. By the second Monday, all the county schools were in session. Now, because we homeschool, we usually wait until after Labor Day to get into school full time. But while school is in session, we generally observe school hours. So this week, I’ve started all the kids working on math timed drills and extra reading, etc. Back to business so to speak.

Today, however, my two older sons needed to get the lawn done. The last two times they did it, I didn’t like the job they did. When mom’s not watching, they’ll skip every corner they can. So today was not only mow the lawn, it was pick up the lawn, dig up the brick you planted in the yard four years ago, etc. I went over everything, from “You have to mow your rows by overlapping - doesn’t work to leave clumps of tall grass” to “Make sure you mow UNDER the bushes too, even if you don’t know why.” At one point, in a very quiet voice, I was nose to nose with my sixteen year old, letting him know in “no uncertain terms” that he would do it my way or else! Wish you could have seen me.

In brief, that’s where I’ve been the last two days - and why I didn’t get to blog yesterday. Tough days sometimes, but ones I wouldn’t trade for the world! Would you?

Oh, man! Can I relate! We’re trying desperately to get back into the swing of things for the start of our homeschool as well. It’s not going as well as I would like - I’m just so unmotivated!

We’re trying to keep the pace slow for the first couple of weeks. Start with keeping up with chores, adding a subject or two every couple of days, etc.

It’s been a really busy summer for my business as well, and I think I’m in burnout. Trying to “defrazzle” myself as well as my readers!
