Today - March 6, 2006 - is my mom’s 80th birthday! Happy birthday, mom!
Let me tell you something about my mom. My mom comes from a family of five children. She is also the mother of 9 children, grandmother or “Nana” to 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She has always been a gracious lady and one of the kindest people I know.
One of mom’s favorite sayings has been “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” It was something she practiced as well as preached.
My mom’s life was all about helping other people. Growing up, I can remember that the doors of our home were always open to people in need. Some of my siblings friends stayed with us when their parents had kicked them out. After many of us had set up our own households, mom took in a close friend who was ill with cancer and nursed her until the end.
A few years ago, my dad and her lifetime partner passed away at the age of 82. It has been a real “eye-opener” to observe how she has handled her grief. One day I asked her how she could handle her grief. She said to me, “I just have to realize that your dad has gone on another long trip (dad was a traveling salesman) and that I will see him again one day.” And so will we.
Mom - I just want you to know how blessed I am to be able to call you Mom! I love you and Praise God for your life! Happy Birthday, mom!
Your loving daughter - Kelly
